Certificates for the Oleksandr Poliakin Scholarship Presented at Odesa National Medical University

On May 26, Odesa National Medical University (ONMedU) hosted a ceremony to present the first scholarship certificates named in honor of Oleksandr Poliakin to two outstanding surgical interns.

The event paid tribute to the memory of Oleksandr Poliakin, a distinguished ONMedU graduate, surgeon, and volunteer of the First Volunteer Mobile Hospital named after Mykola Pirogov (PDMSh), who dedicated his life to medicine and saving lives.

Opening the ceremony, Acting Rector of ONMedU Stanislav Shnaider addressed the students with a speech on the values of the medical profession and the responsibility physicians carry during wartime.

PDMSh was represented at the event by its President and Co-Founder, Hennadii Druzenko. In his remarks, he emphasized the important role of young medical professionals and the need to uphold both professional and human values in times of adversity.

Participants also watched a documentary film dedicated to Oleksandr Poliakin’s life, professional career, and volunteer service.

The scholarship was established to support the most talented interns who have chosen surgery — the field to which Oleksandr Poliakin devoted his life.

The first recipients of the Oleksandr Poliakin Scholarship are:

— Anastasiia Vikol
— Vadym Prosvitliuk

PDMSh expresses its gratitude to Odesa National Medical University for supporting this initiative and preserving the memory of a man who remained faithful to his calling — saving lives — until the very end.
