How to Properly Wear Awards?

We are far from introducing strict military discipline in the PDMSh, such as marching in formation and aligning made beds with thread-along stripes on blankets. But why reinvent the wheel? Let's use the Temporary Procedure for Wearing Orders, Medals, and Other Awards on the Parade Uniform of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, focusing only on the awards given to PDMSh volunteers.

1.1 Right or Left Side?

On the left side of the chest:

  • Order "For Merit" II and III degrees;
  • Order "For Courage" II and III degrees;
  • Medal "For Saved Life";
  • Ministry of Defense of Ukraine's badge "Mark of Distinction";
  • Medal "For Assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine".

On the left side of the chest below awards on bars (ribbons):

  • Star of the Order "For Merit";
  • Star of the Order "For Courage".

On the right side of the chest:

  • Breastplate for the honorary title of Ukraine;
  • Breastplate for the state award of Ukraine.

1.2 How to Arrange Them?

Awards on bars (ribbons) worn on the left side of the chest should be arranged in horizontal rows in order of seniority (i.e., in the order listed above). At most five awards should be in one row. The upper row should not have more awards than the lower row. The bars (ribbons) of awards in the upper row should be aligned by their upper edges, and in the lower rows by their lower edges.

Awards should be placed as follows:

  • On a double-breasted tunic and jacket: The upper edges of the bars (ribbons) of the upper row should be located 70 mm below the level of the lapel notch;
  • On a single-breasted coat and camouflage jacket: The lower edges of the bars (ribbons) of the lower row should be at the level of the flap of the breast pocket;
  • On a uniform shirt (flannel shirt): The upper edges of the bars (ribbons) of the upper row should be 70 mm above the collar notch.

Awards worn on the right side of the chest should be arranged in horizontal rows from the center of the chest to the edge in order of seniority. The centers of the award badges should be on the same level. The distance between rows should be 10-15 mm. The upper row should not have more awards than the lower row.
